I’ve been obsessed with music since I can remember. There isn’t a day goes by I don’t listen to it, think about it, talk about it or write about it. It has been my constant. My saviour. And continues to pull me up when I’m feeling down. Music really is medicine.
Yes, I loved the line “processing grief is bodywork” and the reminder that music is absolutely a support tool for that somatic work. And hell, if you do it right, it doesn’t feel like work, it can be sublime! Thanks for the rad read and good reminder.
Great reminder, great post. This morning I was a little overwhelmed with my “to do” list. But tackling the laundry was so much easier with my AirPods in, listening to my “other time” Spotify playlist! It’s all music in 3/4, 6/8, 5/4, 7/8 time, which keeps me moving and swings me up out of ruts. Everything from Ani Difranco, U2, Jacob collier, Martin Sexton to Tchaikovsky. We take care of ourselves, with help, as we do the work.
Congrats on your album turning 10! I totally miss my mixtapes😄 now I just have a zillion Spotify playlists. Lol I just flipped on some Stringcheese yesterday and it was divinity. Took me straight back🥰

I’m with you. Music is the thing that gets me through.
As a multipassionate vocal sound energy worker, I feel so at home here 🥰
Hey Christine, I’m so glad to have you. It’s an important time for deep work, that’s for sure.

I was always obsessed with the musicianship and poetry of what I was making, but more and more, I am interested in its somatic impact.

Hey Anne! That sounds like a great list. I’m not capable of any housework without some sort of audio dopamine help- either music or a good audio book.
Great post, Jes.
Thanks Leslie, It started as a note I wrote earlier this week, and then after that conversation we had I decided to expand on it a little bit.

I have way too many Spotify playlists too. You just reminded me to put some String Cheese on my weekly dance list. ❤️
